Cyril Rootham - In The Lake Country (Cello) Op.27

£10.00

Composed in 1924, this work is a transcription of the slow movement from CBR's Op.27 String Quintet in D major from ten years previously. One of only two arrangements by Rootham of his own work, each solo part was dedicated to a particular performer with the cello version named for Howard Bliss, brother of the composer Arthur Bliss.

Written as a professional showpiece the work features long soaring melody lines that require close attention to phrasing and secure intonation in the highest register of the cello. Careful balance and interplay with the piano is required which reflects the origins of the work as a quintet movement.

To make the work more accessible to the intermediate player an additional part with octave adjustments has also been included for players of Grade 7 standard.

This new edition has been prepared from the original first edition and we are grateful for the assistance of Dan Rootham, grandson of CBR for making this available.
